What is a Rust force wipe?

Once a month every Rust server starts over at the same time. That moment is the force wipe. Here is when it happens, what gets wiped and how to be ready on day one.

When is the force wipe?

Facepunch releases the monthly Rust update on the first Thursday of the month, usually around 2pm Eastern (11am Pacific, 7pm UK). Servers have to install the update, and the new version cannot load the old world, so every server starts on a fresh map that day.

Our Rust wipe schedule shows the next force wipe dates in your own time zone.

What gets wiped?

  • The map: every base, item and deployable is gone.
  • Your inventory: you spawn with nothing (or a starter kit, depending on the server).
  • Blueprints: only if the server does a BP wipe. On ForgeRust PvP every blueprint is always unlocked, so this never matters there.

What happens on ForgeRust

Both ForgeRust servers wipe on the official force wipe. They come back online as soon as the Rust update and our plugins are ready, and we post it in our Discord. After every wipe a recap appears in our wipe news, with the top players of the wipe that just ended.

Wipe-day checklist

  • Update Rust in Steam as soon as the update is out.
  • Check the Discord to see when the server is back.
  • Join early: the first hour decides the best building spots.
  • Grab your kit, pick a spot and set a home.
  • On PvE, plan your first Raidable Base. On PvP, find your team and your first raid target.
